Music and Me

Hope you all are well on this Sunday.

Been a few days since I posted anything, so thought I'd give you all a little something as you're wrapping up your weekend.

But, before I do, I want to personally thank the Twitter community for getting behind me as a writer.

I guess I've always had the skills to write. I always did well in English as a kid and in college. My formula is simple, as it is when I do a mix. When I mix, I always make a mix that I would enjoy. When I write, I've always written things that I would enjoy reading.

I never realized that writing about music was a gift that I had. I never stopped to think that it would come so naturally. Looking back, I can see the silliness in my own faulty logic. It's easier to write about things you love and enjoy. Forgive me for being a dumbass at the highest levels.

I've been posting a lot on Twitter about how I truly believe that enjoying music as much as possible has positive effects on people's mental health. I can look back on my own experiences and honestly say that if it weren't for music I don't know where I'd be.

Music goes deep into the psyche and has true healing effects. It increases serotonin, which the pharmaceutical industry hasn't caught onto. That's why natural remedies for things such as anxiety and depression aren't well received by the medical community, because if we all felt better by just smoking weed and listening to music, they wouldn't be laughing all the way to the bank like they are.

I know that in my own personal struggles that music has always been a big help in any situation. I can thrown on some of Erick Sermon's funky beats or DJ Premier's New York boom bap and instantly be in a better place.

Even people that don't listen to music regularly like we do can reduce depression by 80% by listening 20-30 minutes a day.

The positive effects are real. Music is the real drug.

It's weird that I can listen to DMX's growls and barking or 2Pac's raw emotion and instantly feel something. That's why hip hop and r&b was at it's best in the 80s and 90s. It was a wonderful movement and we were all so lucky to have witnessed it.

One more thing.

I always try my best to show love to everyone, no matter how I feel on a given day.

Receiving love and support from the Twitter community has made a big difference in my life.
I genuinely appreciate everyone's push to continue blogging and being transparent.

Lastly, for those of you who are not familiar, I give you this. My greatest supporters that everyday make a positive impact on my life.

And it wouldn't be right if I didn't mention this guy
